Magazine Photography Feature!

I’m proud to announce that in the latest issue of premium print magazine A-Magazine page 59 you can find the photos I captured for Leoko Cre8tive! (Direct Link: Click here!).

How did this come about?

I was approached by Leona, the director of Leoko Cre8tive. Richard Carroll Photography was tasked with taking high quality portrait photos for use on Leoko Cre8tive’s website, social media and communications. The photo shoot took place at Leona’s workplace, the XYZ building in Spinningfields, Manchester.

What photography techniques did you use to get the shot?

The shots I wanted to get had to be bright, bold and colourful to match the uniqueness of the company that hired me. I used a Zeiss lens at a shallow depth of field along with lighting: two off camera flashes in soft box modifiers. For exciting composition I took multiple photos around the building. The upper floors which are currently being renovated into a new restaurant and bar were visually amazing. The raw grey concrete created a striking contrast to Leona’s bold colours. The lower floors provided a wide backdrop with interesting shapes, patterns and colours. The green glass of Spinningfields building provides a complimentary backdrop for the photo below:

Further works:

Since this photoshoot I have been involved in more works with Leoko Cre8tive I have creatively covered events along with a special project. Currently in production is a video series documenting the company. The Video will provide an exciting insight of its day to day running and covering its major events the video. More on this little nugget soon!

Travelling in Europe – Lake Geneva, Switzerland

This is something I’ve wanted to share, travelling on my motorcycle through Europe last summer.

I’m new to blogging so bear with me :).

The Shot:

I took this photo last August in Montreux, Switzerland on the coast of Lake Geneva using my Sony A7ii and a zeiss lense.

I had set off from St Louis in France on my motorcycle that morning and by lunch time I was here. It was truly an inspiring spot.  Mountains and glass like water. A hot sun(i think around 30 degrees) beaming down on a hazy humid day. The scene was dreamlike it looked as if the water was blending in with the sky.

The road travelling south into Montreaux reveals one of the most stunning views I have witnessed, Its a shame I couldn’t stop as was a motorway road! The road comes over a hill and you just descend into what is a ginormous valley revealing the lake in all its glory.

After riding through the town I stopped for a break. I walked down to the coast with my camera and was just watching this man fishing, I found it extremely relaxing. Thinking back in this cold winter I wish i was there back in that moment.

I was in Montreaux for a few hours before I had to head off again as my trusty Airbnb was booked further into the country in a city called Sierre.

I absolutely love this photo and I hope you will too. I have a whole bunch of photos from this trip and I’ve got say it has to be the most stunning place I’ve ever been to.

Introducing Myself – Part One

Thank-you for taking your time to have a look around.

Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Richard Carroll and I’m a photographer from Manchester UK. It has taken me a long time to get to where I am today learning from experiences good and bad along the way. The decision to create a career in photography has been sparked by my friends and family who love the creativity & passion I have for my work.

I have always been around media, my first job after my art foundation degree was as a video editor. I was 19 years old and got the job based on a film I created for my final project. It showed the changes in scenery & landscapes from the city to the countryside; I even made my own soundtrack(more on that another day!). I was awarded distinction for the project and accompanying artwork which I was amazed by, no one had done a video project before and the risk paid off.  My job at the video production company was alongside my audio engineering & production course at Futureworks in Manchester. There I collaborated with the video production crew to create films, music videos and shorts giving me a foundation of knowledge for my work today.

Fast forward and I’ve just turned 29, and this is official. I look forward to sharing my shoots, experiences and insights with you, I hope you are as excited as I am!

Look out for future updates!!

Thank-you

Richard Carroll
